Questioning Why Hennepin County Sheriff’s Department Is Wearing Masks During Traffic Stops
I document a traffic stop where I’m warned for stopping in a turn lane, then raise serious concerns about why the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Department is wearing masks during enforcement operations. I compare their masked appearance to ICE tactics and question whether Sheriff Dawaunna Witt made a deal involving this practice, contrasting it with the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Department’s typical no-mask policy. I argue that the person being stopped can better explain what happened than the officer, and call for elected officials and candidates associated with Witt to answer why law enforcement is masking their identities.
