The Cycle of Oppression: How Marginalized Groups Have Joined Law Enforcement to Assimilate
We discuss how people from marginalized groups, such as Irish immigrants and formerly enslaved Black people, have sometimes joined law enforcement in an attempt to assimilate and be treated better than their own ethnic or racial group. This is exemplified by the case of Dean Cain, whose Japanese American family was imprisoned in a Japanese internment camp during World War II, but who later joined ICE to chase down immigrants.
